Malladi Venkata Krishna Murthy (born 13 November 1949, in Vijayawada) is a popular Telugu writer for the past 50 years. His first story appeared in Chandamama Telugu monthly in August 1970. He writes in many genres, short-stories and novels. He had written 5000 short stories, out of which 4000 were published so far in various magazines during the 50-year period. He had travelled to more than 35 countries and had written 12 travelogues covering all the countries. He is the seventh child to his parents Malladi Dakshina Murthy (father) and Malladi Saradamba (mother) amongst nine. He graduated from Andhra University in 1969 in commerce faculty. He worked in different private organizations up to 1972 before joining as an auditor in Member, Audit Board and Ex-officio Director of Commercial Audit Office, a Central government audit office in Hyderabad. He resigned from his job in 1986 to become a full-time writer. He wrote 108 novels in all genres like comedy, love, social, spiritual, philosophical, devotional, lady-oriented, fantasy, crime, macabre and suspense themes, interesting to a larger section of readers. He also wrote over 5,000 short stories in all genres in scores of magazines, out of which over 1,000 are translations from English to Telugu, and he holds unclaimed and unacknowledged record of the only writer in Telugu who had published over 4,000 short stories. He had directed his own novel D for Death, a 16 episodes T.V serial that was telecast in Gemini Channel in 1995. He experimented various techniques in his novels. His novel ‘Dooram’ runs only with letters. His novels ‘Col Ekalingam Adventures, Mr Miriyam, Sundari-Subrao and Divine Comedy’ run only with jokes. Three fourths of his novel ‘Mr No’ takes place in a single jail cell with a single character. His very second novel 'Mrs Paramkusam' deals with the reform of a call girl, where the protagonist marries her and through the systematic and scientific reforms makes her a perfect house wife. This was also made into a movie called ‘Jyotilakshmi’ in Telugu. His two novels 'Mandakini and The Guest' dealt with the scientific reform methods of alcoholic and cigarette addictions. The former one was made into a T.V serial in Telugu. He owns Lipi publications since 1994 through which he publishes his own works. Almost all the erstwhile and existing commercial magazines in Telugu published his works without exception. He lives with his wife Padmaja in Hyderabad. His three daughters Kavya, Ooha and Lipi live in USA. He considers his work 'Malli Cheppina Ramayanam' as special, as he wrote Valimiki Ramayanam in colloquial Telugu language. He had written several spiritual stories; novels and articles. He also believes in Karma theory and compiled many Slokas in context with Karma from various Hindu scriptures for over 7 years and wrote a book called Karma-Janma, first of its kind in Telugu, in which Karma theory is explained lucidly in various chapters. This book is being constantly in demand. He designed and edited a weekly called ‘Sravanti’ in 1986 which was the second largest selling weekly of that time. From January 2012 the author is conducting an online internet Radio Show called ‘Malladi Muchhatlu’ as RJ for two hours a week, Friday 9.30 to 11.30 pm Indian Standard Time, where in many callers participate by skype or phone to interact with the author on various topics. Once he calculated the following statistics for fun:• Number of A4 size pages used= 864 Kg• He spent approximately 6 years and 3 months writing these pages.• He used 2,300 ball pens.• A ball pen draws on an average a line of 2 KMs length.• This is equal to 4,600 KMs.• That equals to drawing a line from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and then 1,744 KMs back.
