Somesvara III was a king at Kalyana in Karnataka, who ruled from 1127 to 1139 A.D. That was a peaceful period. So, Somesvara could devote his time to the composition of Manasollasa which is an encylopaedia. Dr. M.N. Joshi has dealt with all the topics which are systematically treated by the author of Manasollasa which is literally a desire yielding jewel for the information devoutly wished for i.e. Abhilasitarthacintamani.
