Genki Kawamura's first novel, If Cats Disappeared From The World, sold over two million copies worldwide and is published in 28 countries. Sony Pictures is developing an English-language feature adaptation. His other novels are Million Dollar Man, April Come She Will and A Hundred Flowers. He co-authored Chatty Rooms with Marie Kondo Chatty Rooms and translated the U.S and U.K. bestseller The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse. His first translated work was published in 2021 and sold over 240 thousand copies in Japan. He has also written three children's books Tinny & The Balloon, MOOM, and Patissier Monster.
Genki is a film producer, director, screenwriter, and showrunner as well. His debut directorial short Duality was selected for In Competition - Short Films at Cannes Film Festival. He is also known for producing Confessions, Villains, your name., Weathering with You and the Academy Awards nominated animated film Mirai. He made his directorial debut feature based on his A Hundred Flowers, which was selected for the Competition section at the 70th edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival and he became the first Japanese to receive the Silver Shell for Best Director Award. Most recently, he produced Hirokazu Koreeda's Monster which won the Best Screenplay and Queer Palme awards at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival.
