In 2017, he joined Istanbul Technical University as a full-time professor, leading centers for entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. He also organized TEDxITU. Additionally, in 2022, he served as a guest faculty member and Chief Innovation Officer at Sabancı University, where he was the rector's senior advisor on entrepreneurship and technology commercialization, founding the J-START venture capital company.Ergen has received eight Bülent Kerim Altay Awards from METU and served on the board of trustees at TOBB University of Economics and Technology.
