Prof. Dr Mayil Vahanan Natarajan, MS (Ortho), MCh (Ortho) (L'pool), PhD (Orth. Onco), DSc, FRCS (Eng), is a renowned orthopaedic surgeon and former Vice Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. He was the first Director of the Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Madras Medical College and Government General Hospital. He has over 2250 surgeries of custom mega prosthesis to his credit—the highest by any single surgeon worldwide—and has been awarded PhD (2000) and DSc (2004) by The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University for his work and three more honorary Doctorates of Science (DSc) subsequently by other universities. Dr Natarajan has been honoured with the country’s prestigious civilian award ‘Padma Shri’ in 2007 in recognition of his contributions to Orthopaedic Oncology and has also received the B.C. Roy National Award for his contribution to the field of orthopaedics. He has received many international awards as well including International Cancer Technology Award and British Orthopaedic Association Wishbone Trust Award.
