It was in the curriculum in Spring 2010 in a Comparative World Literature course, taught by Jordan Smith, at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). The University of Rochester has included Zero Degree in its translation program.
He was selected as one among 'Top Ten Indians of the Decade 2001 - 2010' by The Economic Times.
A play he wrote was disrupted in the middle because it was gayish. The cast and the author were attacked.
No publisher came forward to publish his initial novels. For two decades he self-published his works due to the taboo that was thrust on him by the traditional Tamil establishment. But the neighboring language, Malayalam, had publishers with a broader outlook to translate and publish his works as fast as it came from him.
He considers Kathy Acker, William Burroughs, Charles Bukowski as his fellow travelers.
His latest novel 'Marginal Man' which is part of the Auto Fiction genre and two non-fiction books ‘To Byzantium: A Turkey Travelogue’ and ‘Unfaithfully Yours’ (a collection of articles published in journals and newspapers) have been published recently. இகனாமிக் டைம்ஸ் நாளிதழின் அகில இந்தியப் பதிப்பில், 2001 - 2010 என்ற பத்தாண்டுகளின் சாதனையாளர் பட்டியலில் தமிழகத்திலிருந்து இடம் பெற்ற இரண்டு பேர்களில் ஒருவர் சாரு நிவேதிதா.
இவரது நாவல் ‘ஸீரோ டிகிரி’ Jan Michalski சர்வதேசப் பரிசுக்குப் பரிந்துரைக்கப்பட்டது. ஹார்ப்பர் காலின்ஸ் தொகுத்த, இந்தியாவின் ஐம்பது முக்கிய புத்தகங்களில் ஒன்றாகவும் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டது.
